The Canongate Golf League is a new concept in competitive golf available only to Canongate Golf Club members. It is designed for men and women members of all ages and ability. Signups are for 1 season at a time and you can play in as many or as few seasons as you wish. Registration will end (7) days prior to each season's start date.  Registration and Season Dates.  Each season's membership fee is $19 for early bird registration and $29 for regular registration.  Dates for early bird registration will be posted on the home page.

To register for the Canongate Golf League, go to the Registration Page and fill out the necessary information requested. If you are a returning member, please register by logging into your Player Profile Page and clicking the registration link in your message box.  To be eligible for a season, you must pay your membership fee at a Canongate golf course or on the CGL website. If you pay your fee at a golf course, you will be required to enter your confirmation number to complete registration.  It is important to complete the Registration Page accurately and honestly as this information will be portrayed on your Player Profile Page and will determine your flight and bracket.

Once registered, Canongate Golf League will flight you according to your USGA handicap and bracket you based on your geographical location / preferred course. You must have a USGA handicap and a valid GHIN number to join the league.  Your registration will be rejected if you do not.  Click here to learn more about USGA handicaps.  The goal of the Canongate Golf League is to ensure fair and convenient competition for players of any ability anywhere within the Canongate Golf Clubs. The CGL team will validate player's handicaps prior to commencement of league play.  If you prefer to play your golf in an area away from your residence please let us know so we can bracket you accordingly.

During the week prior to the beginning of the season all Player Profile Pages will be updated with the current season's schedule. From the Player Profile Page, CGL members will be able to view match schedules, opponent contact information and current / historical results and statistics.

Once you receive your schedule you will have 10 weeks to complete 5 regular season matches (1 match per 2 weeks) at the time and Canongate golf course of your choice. All matches will be match play and handicaps will be used to determine net scores. Unlike regular match play where a match may end with 3 holes left to play, the CGL requires you to complete the remainder of the round. You will have the option of playing a 9 or 18 hole round on any Canongate golf course that you and your opponent choose. For every match there will be a designated home player, who is required to keep score and fill in the final scorecard for both players on the CanongateGolfLeague.com website. The CGL website will provide you with an electronic scorecard for every Canongate golf course.

As matches are played and scorecards are filled out, your Player Profile Page will be updated with your results and your statistics.

Not only will you be able to view how well you are playing, but you will also be able to see how well you stack up against everyone else in your bracket and flight across Canongate with our Statistics Leaderboard and Flight Standings Pages . Here you will be able to see who is leading each statistical category and who is on pace to qualify for the End of Season tournament.

The goal of each match is to accumulate as many points as possible to qualify for the End of Season tournament where the league champions for each flight will be crowned. The league member with the most points in each bracket will automatically qualify for the End of Season tournament. If you do not finish at the top of your bracket, you will still have an opportunity to compete in the End of Season tournament if you earn a high Points per Hole average relative to other competitors in your flight. The purpose of the Points per Hole average is to give players who narrowly miss winning their bracket an opportunity to play in the End of Season tournament.

To ensure all matches are fair and equal for all players, handicaps will be used for each match. Prior to beginning your match, look up each player's handicap index in the GHIN system at your Canongate Golf Course of choice. Once each index is obtained, view the course chart located in the pro shop and calculate each player's course handicap based on the tees that the match will be played.  Using indexes to determine course handicaps will equalize a match between players who usually play from different tees.  Refer to the USGA for further explanation:  USGA Competing from Different Tees.  Please consult the local course pro if you have questions regarding the determination of each player's course handicap.  Subtract the lower handicap from the higher handicap to find how many shots the disadvantaged player receives during the match. All shots must be distributed based on the toughest handicap holes. Scores should be entered into the CGL system using net score.  Scores should be entered into the GHIN system using gross scores (see Policies and Rules for details on posting scores).  See chart below for an example.

For example, if Player 1 is a 10 handicap and Player 2 is an 8 handicap, Player 1 will receive 2 shots which must be taken on the 2 toughest handicap holes.  Enter scores online net of strokes received.  See chart below for an example.
